An Economist's Nightmare

Halloween is an economist’s biggest nightmare. Economists generally recommend lump-sum transfers (like cash) instead of in-kind payments (like candy). That way consumers (children) can buy whatever goods (snickers bars) they want, rather than inefficiently being given goods (candy corn) they may not wish to eat. As usual, the economics profession provides wonderful advice to promote efficiency.

Our battle cry: Reform Halloween Now!
