Immigration Law

The Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act would revise laws governing immigration, allowing a larger proportion of 11.5 million illegal immigrants to pursue legal citizenship.

The CBO estimates its economic effects to be the following:
  • Increase the size of the labor force and employment
  • Decrease average wages slightly prior to 2025
  • Increase average wages in 2025 and beyond
  • Slightly raise the unemployment rate through 2020
  • Boost the amount of capital investment
  • Raise the productivity of labor and of capital
  • Result in higher interest rates
  • Reduce deficits by $175 billion over the first 10 years
  • Reduce deficits by $700 billion in the second decade
