Earlier this spring, NYC launched its bike-share program with 6,000 bikes in 330 stations, with plans to expand to 10,000 bikes by next year. According to city records, New York City budgeted $1.55 million for the bike-share program over two years, and has spent $600,000 of that.
But it may surprise you to find that any city spending pales compared with $41 million that Citigroup is providing over six years for the program. And MasterCard, which is processing the credit-card payments needed to use the bikes, is kicking in another $6.5 million in funding.
