Malthus worried about the sustainability of population growth, but a recent study’s authors worry about the sustainability of population girth.

The researchers used body mass index and heights to estimate the biomass of the world’s entire adult population and found that although the U.S. contains less than 5% of the world's population, it is responsible for about a third of the excess weight due to obesity.
