Based on estate tax returns filed between 2007 and 2009, the IRS estimated 1.8 million Americans had a net worth of at least $2 million. That's a 12.1% increase over 2001.
As a group, the high-net worth club's combined net worth, total assets minus debt, was $11.6 trillion.
But it's interesting to note, that more than half of the 1.8 million millionaires had a net worth between $2 million and $3 million. Indeed, they're probably the guy or gal next-door who's paid off his mortgage, put money in his 401-k and has not run up debt on his credit card. In other words, it could be you.
