Currently, the national obesity rate is over 35 percent for adults, with large variation among the states.
If current trends continue until 2030, all states could reach or exceed an obesity rate of 44 percent for adults, and 13 states will have an obesity rates above 60 percent. And all that fat is expensive, for according to the Trust for America’s Health, obesity will cost the U.S. $550 billion over the next two decades. The costs will include increased medical expenses, therapies, treatments and lost productivity.
